Alto Tormes / From Las Aceñas bridge to La Retuerta

On the road that leads to Navalguijo, one kilometre away from El Barco de Avila, we can find the Bridge of Las Aceñas, actually two bridges, the old one and other one recently built. From them you have a nice sight of the Castle and Old Bridge of the Barco.

Passing away the Bridge of Las Aceñas the cañada, ancient paths to guide sheeps and cattle, leads to the Tornavacas peak, you cna walk easily, but no shadows are available, no trees nor bushes. Then this walk it is advisable at the sunset, at dawn or even at night when the moon brights high above El Tormal magnificent mountain on the left side when you start the walk.

On your right the Aravalle river and the paths that go to their banks and cross it with pasaderas, big stones that permit the walk over the waters, to aproach to the different villages of both sides of the river. In twenty minutes walk you arrive to pasadera of La Carrera. The paths on the right lead to Las Cabezas mountain.

After one hour walk you could be just beside La Canaleja and if you watch to the left you can see a stony circular construction, they are the remains of a noria. Ten or fifteen minutes later on the cañada enters in an humid aerea where the vegetation grows.
Just ahead and a little on the right, you have a whole sight of the Duke's Lake. Just there you have to look for the path that goes to the right in the direction of the bend of the road close to La Retuerta. In this same bend beside to the path that brought you here, starts a new one that goes to Umbrías, although it is a little more complicated walk to do.

In La Venta, close to the road you have just arrived, a baker's shop is open to buy a wide variety of bread and buns made of integral flour.

VEGETATION: Oaks, pine trees, poplars, ash trees, alders, these are the diferent species you can see along the walk.
